Sewcialites Quilt Along, Block 3

I got right to sewing the Sewcialites block this morning as soon as the pattern was published.  I took my picture with a green background because the white block edges just faded into a white background.

I'm loving the block patterns so far in combination with the bold fabrics and white background.

Dear Jane, 133 Blocks and 9 Triangles

Last Thursday I was able to piece two green blocks.

A11 was drawn with a thin black border surrounding it, but I pieced it so the design went right out to the edges.  I paper pieced the centre.

D13 was one of the easiest block yet!

Today I pieced two blue blocks.

A12 had a lot of tiny triangles and I paper pieced it.

A12 closeup.  For some reason the colours came out weird on this closeup and the next as well.

A3 was another block which was supposed to be applique by I made it so I could use cathedral window techniques.

Here are all my blocks so far.

This means I now have sewn 133 of 169 blocks, so only 36 blocks left and 9 of 56 triangles, so still have 47 triangles left.  Getting there!

Sewing Machine Cover Binding Finished

I last posted about the cat sewing machine cover when I finished the applique back in May of not this year, but May of last year!  Somewhere between now and then I sewed the pieces together and sewed on binding and it has been waiting for me to finish hand sewing the edges of the binding down ever since.  One curved side was nearly finished so I just had to sew down a couple of inches and then sew down the other side.  It probably only took me about an hour and now I can use it instead of the vinyl cover the machine came with.

I'm very pleased with this finish.  Here's a better picture of the cat himself and his mischievous face.

It's nice to have a cat in the sewing room.

A Finished Pink Quilt for My Sister

I quilted this quilt after I finished my son and d-i-l's quilt for their July wedding and used the same pantograph as I had used on their quilt as I thought the flowers in the pantograph went really well with the flowers in the fabrics as well as the pieced flower shapes in the quilt.

 Here is the finished quilt.  For some reason my pictures came out showing the quilt quite a bit paler than it actually is even though the grass came out really dark.

Here is a much better picture of the quilt with my sister which she sent me when she opened it although the quilt is a bit creased from being squished up in a mailing box.

I was hoping to give it to her in person, but I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon due to covid travel restrictions so I had to mail it to her.

Sewcialites Quilt Along, Block Number Two

The second Sewcialites block came out on Friday and I sewed it up today.  Since this block was a lot more simple than the first block and only composed of a few larger pieces, I chose a larger print fabric.

Here is my second block Loyal.

And here are my first two blocks side by side.  You can see what I mean by the second block being much more simple.  The first block has 41 pieces and the second only has 13.

I like how these blocks have the main coloured print fabric and the background fabric opposite to what you would normally expect.

Sewcialites Quilt Along, Block Number One

I have decided to sew along with the free quilt along Sewcialites from the Fat Quarter Shop.  There will be 36 blocks published once a week on Fridays.  I am going to make 9" blocks, but you can also make 6" or 3".

Here is my first block Harmony.

I couldn't decide if the block looked better photographed on a dark or a light background so I used both!  I usually prefer to use an off white or grey background fabric, but I think white will really set off the bundle of bright coloured fabrics I am going to use.  I am going to make every block in a different fabric.

 Last week I paper pieced triangle TR11.

Yesterday I pieced 5 more blocks.

Here is A6 a very easy block to just piece.

Bock A8 was very simple too, but I did paper piece it.

Block A9 had a few more pieces and worked well to paper piece.

Today I pieced 3 more blocks.  First up is A4.  I paper pieced the centre and just pieced the easy border.

A10 was fairly complicated to piece.  I did a cathedral window centre to give me the melon shape and then the triangles were added with some curved piecing and Y seams.  This took me a couple of hours to piece.

A10 closeup.  It's a little wonky but will be fine once it's sashed.

Then for some reason I made block A2 with a couple of errors... but I like it so it will stay the way it is.  I paper pieced it but inadvertently mixed up the colours of the half-square triangles in the four corners.  The yellow triangles should have been pointing out instead of in.  The biggest problem was I should not have made it yellow as I already had two yellow blocks for this row.  All is not lost as I will trade it for a block from another row where I need a yellow and make that block for this row.

When you start making booboos, it's a sign to pack it in for the day though.  Still having fun and more than half of row A is done.
