Mayflower Scott Flanagan Block of the Month Five

The instructions for this block came out at the beginning of the month and I found time this week to make it.  This block is a traditional block called Monkey Wrench.  Several of the tips of my red triangles got eaten up by the border but I can live with it.

Here are my five blocks so far.

This will likely become a comfort quilt donated to charity. There will be 12 blocks in total.

Two BOM's and one BOW

On Monday I got to work on two Block of the Months and one Block of the Week.  First up I worked on the Sewcialites block of the week from the previous Friday.  This week's block was called Virtue and is the 25th of 36.

Here are my blocks 19-25.

Next I worked on the Scott Flanagan Block of the Month our guild is running.  This is block 4 called Tulip Blossoms.

Here are my four blocks so far.

While I was working on the above blocks, I sewed together block halves made in Part 2 of the Mayflower Mystery Quilt #1 to make the final blocks for the centre of this quilt.  Here's a picture of what 16 blocks will look like together.  None of these blocks halves are sewn together yet, I just put them up on my design wall so I could see what the quilt is going to end up looking like.

I'll continue putting these blocks together as I sew other things.

Progress on Two Mystery Quilts and the Fifth Snowflake Quilt

The third clue for the Mayflower Quilt Guild Scott Flanagan BOM came out.  Here's my Wheel of Chance block.

And here are the three blocks so far.

I skipped block two, but made all the rest of the Jelly Snowflake blocks.  I altered block three leaving off the snowballed corners and made the central block like a plus same as the fourth snowflake quilt I made.

I replaced the star blocks with a simple four patch and filled in with the background fabric.

While I was sewing the above projects, I was also sewing units together for the last Steps of Part 2 of the Mayflower Mystery Quilt #1.

Just 83 seams to go!

Mayflower Quilt Guild Block of the Month by Scott Flanagan

Yesterday the second block came out for our guild BOM.  Today we are having snow, ice pellets, rain, wind etc. so it was a perfect sew day!  Here's my second block called Double X.  It only used three of the five colours in the first block.

 And here are blocks one and two together.

I like how each block has a different colour frame.

Happy New Year / Needle / Rotary Cutter Blade / BOM - Mayflower Quilt Guild Scott Flanagan Block of the Month

I decided to start the new sewing year off right with a new needle in my machine plus a good machine cleaning and oiling.  It's amazing how much quieter your sewing machine is when it is well oiled and has a sharp new needle!  I also decided to put in a new rotary cutter blade.  It had been missing a couple of threads all through my December sewing projects.  You don't realize how much harder you are having to press to cut your fabric because it changes so gradually, but once you have a new blade in there you hardly have to press at all!

Since the quilt guild I belong to continues to be unable to meet in person, we are going to do a couple of mystery quilts and a block of the month (BOM).  The first block for the BOM came out today.  First up was choosing the fabrics:  Red, green, purple, blue, gold and a neutral is the colour scheme.  Here are my choices:

The reds are leftovers from various projects.  I don't have quite as much as called for, but can always get some more if required.

The green has been used here and there in various projects and is paler than the colour suggested but I think it will be ok.

The purple is a fabric that was donated to me and has more white in it than I would have chosen if I were buying fabric, but I think it will also be ok.

The blue is also a fabric that was donated to me and I think it's great.

The golds are leftovers from various projects and I may not have quite as much as required, but I can always get more of these too.

The neutral is a very light gray left over from the background of another project.

The first block is a traditional Broken Dishes Block and here's mine.

I think this new sewing year is off to a great start!  Now, because I allowed myself to start a new project, I have to finish an old project.
